Customer Review: “I love this French press!!! After about 8 broken glass carafes using our Bodum, we finally purchased this beautiful one. I should have bought this one first!!!! We use this interchangeably for loose leaf tea and coffee and works great for both. Gorgeous, simple, elegant, classy and classic. No glass to break. This is very sturdy- has held up so far to 3 months heavy use and I anticipate years of use from this item!!! Very easy to clean- large open top means I can reach in with my hand to pull out the old grounds and tea. My hand also reaches easily down to clean with a sponge. It doesn’t stain with either coffee or tea- and washes easily with hot water and a touch of soap. No strainer opener at the top also keeps the top cleaner and more sanitary. The double wall construction keeps my drinks warm much longer than the glass one did. Price- no more expensive than a glass French press!! Cons: There are really only two. The first is obvious- you can’t see the level of liquid inside. The other is that you can’t unscrew the strainers on the bottom of the plunger. With my old press- the strainers easily unscrewed- making cleaning out tea leaves quite easy. These are welded together- and since I frequently use this for tea- I was really disappointed to find out that I couldn’t separate the strainers. It makes cleaning the tea leaves out of the strainer portion quite difficult. Overall- in spite of the two cons- I am super happy with this purchase and highly recommend this item!!”

Customer Review: “How do I love thee… let me count the ways… After years of using a glass coffee press (BTW “French”, like in the fries, has little to do with a coffee press pot, and ya, I know it’s a common term) I had learned to love the coffee brewed and curse the makers of many broken, egg-shell glass pots to the deepest parts of Hades. They will crack/break if you look at them funny. For the few comments that suggest this is always due to some form of abuse… well, keep on buying glass. For more knowing, practical creatures, the ALL stainless steel, double walled is a blessing in all areas. I swore to replace the next broken coffee press with full stainless, but would always seem to find another like-new glass one in some resale store or EBay for 5 bucks and shelling out around 100 bucks for a ‘beautiful’ top of the line stainless pot hurt my frugal feelings. Then my last glass pot cracked… in the cupboard, overnight, apparently attacked by tiny evil elves, because I had learned to handle glass pots like holy objects, with kid gloves. It was the last straw. Still, I knew drinking my morning elixir from a pot that cost a hundred bucks or so would not provide personal satisfaction. These pricey pots are fine, but I began to search reviews to locate one less expensive. Oh, the glass pot with the 4\” crack luckily (magically) did not leak. Divine providence had allowed a day-to-day reprieve, while I compared reviews. The Highwin won. I took a chance and was rewarded. For about forty American dollars I have a stainless steel jewel and apparently an unbreakable workhorse… plus they sent a replacement screen along in the box. Like one could actually own a coffee press long enough to wear out the filter screen… Ha. For those seeking a great cup of Joe., simply, at home, without filling the coffers of your local shoppe, do NOT buy a press pot with ANY glass or plastic parts. (reread until you feel the truth of it). It’s not all about low cost either, as I have a very fine $$ (now rather dusty) stainless steel, with a gold mesh filter, grind and brew electric coffee maker, used seldom, for large gathering of folks who neither know or care about great coffee. The ‘simply’ part comes from some patient practice to get the brew just the way you want it. A coffee press makes coffee that tastes of coffee (having sampled coffees around the world, I’m not tough enough for Turkish made, consumed daily) and you cannot read the paper (computer screen now) through it, as served to the uninitiated masses, in many American restaurants. I recommend this coffee press highly… I have used it for about a month and It works better than any pot I have had, looks great (I like stainless steel) and the price is more than reasonable. Should my observations change, I will upgrade this epic comment. My thanks to the reasonable reviewers who led me to purchase the Highwin. I owe no allegiance to any coffee maker company nor would I mislead, with intent, on a subject I hold so dear. UPDATED: Okay… I have used this Highwin coffee press pot for about 9 months daily and it still wonderful on all points. Do not buy a coffee press with any glass or plastic parts. NOW… for those who say it is difficult to clean – you’re doing it wrong. Should take less than a minute, maybe a bit more if you close your eyes…… for those who think the double wall has something to do with keeping your coffee warm… your doing it wrong… brew your coffee and separate the fresh brew from the grounds, into a pre-heated coffee service carafe, or it will continue to brew into luke warm, bitter muck. You would be dismayed to learn how many comments here indicate they keep coffee & grounds together and wonder why it does not stay hot longer. I wonder why they drink the goop remaining in the press pot??? The Cafe Du Chateau French Press is very well made and seems sturdy enough to last a long time, with a thick glass carafe, good quality stainless steel, and no sharp edges, as mentioned in other reviews (I guess they fixed that problem, which shows that the manufacturer is paying attention). Taking it apart for cleaning is easy peasy, with the exception of unscrewing the cross plate from the stem. That can be a little stubborn to loosen at times. Otherwise it’s very easy to break down and clean. To easily remove the used grounds from the carafe without worrying about clogging my drain or making a mess, I use the mesh filter basket from my retired 5-cup Mr. Coffee, with a paper filter inside of that. I add a little water to the used grounds, swirl it around a little, and pour the sludge into the filter basket. I let it drain for a while and then remove the paper filter full of grounds from the basket and drop it into the garbage. Again, easy peasy.”

Easy to clean, easy to use and makes great coffee. My formula for this French press is: 4 cups of boiling water and 8 LEVEL tablespoons of coffee. I pour a little amount of boiling water into the coffee maker and let it sit for about 1 minute. Then pour in the rest of the water. Put the lid on but don’t push the plunger yet. Let it sit for 4 minutes and then SLOWLY push the plunger down until it can’t go any further. Thought I would include my formula for this one because initially, I didn’t know the ratio of water to coffee for me. I am used to a smaller coffee press. But, everyone should work out what works for them. I like a little stronger coffee. so you may want to use less of the coffee grounds. I am thoroughly enjoying this French press and the coffee it makes. This press keeps coffee warm a little longer than a glass one.”
